Harald Szeemann started working on the famous exhibition in November 1968, having earlier that same year enabled Christo to wrap the Kunsthalle. The exhibition finally opened in March 1969.
To commemorate this process of thought, research and organising, When Attitudes Become Pages is holding a Facebook event.
The notional locations for this event will be the centres of the Western art world in 1968: Paris, London and New York. Los Angeles, an important centre for many of the artists in the original show, is also included. In recognition of the role of Bern in fostering the ideas, it will be the official locale. Regardless of these physical connections, participants in the event may be based anywhere.
Participants are invited to take the slogan of the original exhibition literally for at least one day during the five months of the event. While living in your head for the day, it is suggested that you consider the meaning of “attitudes” in the original exhibition, its more recent revivals, or within the context of a Facebook event.
Following a day of living in your head, you are encouraged to share your thoughts on the experience with other participants by commenting here in the Facebook event.
